The Canadiens suffered their fifth straight loss, a season high.

Zach Parise, Patrik Elias and Sergei Brylin also scored for the Devils, and Martin Brodeur made 19 saves for his 35th win of the season.

Sheldon Souray and Sergei Samsonov scored for the Canadiens.

Penguins 5, Blackhawks 4

PITTSBURGH - Evgeni Malkin tied the game late in the third period, then teamed with Erik Christensen to score in the shoot-out as Pittsburgh edged Chicago.

The Penguins gained at least a point for the 14th consecutive game and are 12-0-2 in that stretch.

OTTAWA,, Ontario - Martin Gerber made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season, and 10 players had points in Ottawa's victory over Florida.

Chris Phillips, Mike Fisher, Mike Comrie and Dean McAmmond provided the goals.

NASHVILLE - Shea Weber scored two goals and Tomas Vokoun stopped 22 shots as Nashville blanked San Jose.

The Predators moved back on top of the NHL standings with 81 points, a point ahead of idle Buffalo.

DALLAS - Henrik Zetterberg scored the go-ahead goal with 4:36 left, having set up the tying score a little over four minutes earlier, to lift Detroit over Dallas.

Pavel Datsyuk tied the game at 11:14 and Mathieu Schneider added an empty-netter with 33 seconds left, also assisted by Zetterberg.

Blues 4, Blue Jackets 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Rookie David Backes had his first two-goal game in the NHL, propelling St. Louis past Columbus.

Captain staying aboard. Phoenix has agreed to a five-year contract with captain Shane Doan.

The agreement was completed yesterday, according to a person with knowledge of the contract who asked not to be identified because it had not been officially announced.

It will reportedly be worth $22 million to $23 million.
