Flyers prospect Steve Downie is recovering from shoulder surgery but is expected to be in training camp.

The club announced yesterday that the forward underwent successful surgery last Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. His recovery time is identical to Mike Knuble's - eight to 10 weeks.

"It was not a major surgery," general manager Paul Holmgren said.

Flyers team physician and orthopedic surgeon Peter DeLuca performed the procedure at Methodist Hospital.

"It has been a rough couple of days, but it is getting better every day and it's feeling pretty good," Downie said yesterday. "The injury occurred during World Junior camp last summer in August. I remember getting hit, but I didn't want to sit out any time, so I've just been waiting to get this done. Camp is still a long way away. Right now I am just getting focused on getting healthy and getting ready to play for camp."
