Flyers forward Ben Eager re-signed with the club yesterday, agreeing to a two-year, $1.2 million contract.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound left winger earned $646,000 last season. His new deal will see him earn less this coming year at $550,000 and then $650,000 in 2008-09.
"Ben is another one of our younger players that continued to develop last season," general manager Paul Holmgren said. "He is a big, physical presence on the ice and adds a key dimension to our lineup. We expect Ben to be an important part of our core of young players that we're going to continue to build upon."
The 23-year-old scored six goals and added five assists for 11 points and also had 233 penalty minutes in 63 games last season. Those 233 penalty minutes led the NHL. His teammates voted him the 2006-07 winner of the Pelle Lindbergh Trophy as the Flyers' most improved player.
"I thought that personally it was a good year, and I learned a lot," Eager said. "From a team standpoint we struggled, but I think a lot of people learned from the year. I just want to continue to improve and help the team in any way I can."
