Flyers fans from the 1970s undoubtedly have many fond memories of Dave Schultz. From his knockout fights to his bruising hits, Schultz was a staple in the Flyers' two Stanley Cup runs.
Next month, you will get a chance to re-live those memories.
Dave "The Hammer" Schultz will be inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame before the Nov. 16 game against the New Jersey Devils at the Wachovia Center. The pregame ceremony will include a highlight montage and a brief speech by Schultz.
Schultz, who turns 60 today, will be the 20th member to be enshrined in the Flyers' Hall; Ron Hextall was inducted last year.
"Dave Schultz helped define Philadelphia Flyers hockey," said Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider. "He played with a high level of intensity, always proudly defending the orange and black and making it difficult for our opponents. He never backed down and he fought hard every night, wearing his heart on his sleeve. While his temporary home was in the penalty box, we're glad that he will have a permanent home in the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame."
Schultz played for the Flyers for just four seasons but recorded 51 goals and 64 assists for 115 points in the regular season, with 1,386 penalty minutes, which rank fifth all-time in Flyers history. In 1974-75, Schultz recorded 472 penalty minutes in 76 games to set an NHL record for most penalty minutes in one season.

In the first day of team building activities, Flyers coaches beat up on the players in a regatta-style sailing race on Biscayne Bay in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., yesterday. Coach John Stevens and assistant coaches Jack McIlhargey, Craig Berube, Adam Patterson, Joe Mullen and massage therapist Brad Smith navigated their sailboat across the finish line a full 3 minutes before the second place team of Chris Pronger, Matt Carle, Ray Emery, Simon Gagne, Mike Richards and Mika Pyorala . . . The team will practice this morning before competing in a fishing tournament as they prepare for Friday night's contest with the Florida Panthers.
