Versteeg, Boynton will skip White House trip

Chicago's Stanley Cup champions will meet with President Obama and will be honored at the White House next Friday, but two former Blackhawks - the Flyers' Kris Versteeg and Nick Boynton - have politely declined the invitations.

Chicago's Stanley Cup champions will meet with President Obama and will be honored at the White House next Friday, but two former Blackhawks - the Flyers' Kris Versteeg and Nick Boynton - have politely declined the invitations.

"It's just been crazy the last couple days," said Boynton, who was picked up on waivers Saturday. "If I was still with Chicago, that would obviously be something I would be looking forward to. But right now I'm with Philly and trying to get to know the guys instead of jumping all over the place."

Versteeg, who scored goals in the first and second periods against Toronto (another of his ex-teams) on Thursday, had similar sentiments.

"It is an exciting thing to go to the White House, but I just decided to let those guys go," Versteeg said. "I'm still friends with those guys, don't get me wrong, but I haven't been with them for about a year now, and I'm on a team that may play them again. You never know."

The Flyers have a practice scheduled next Friday in Voorhees.
