At Calgary, Rene Bourque scored twice to lead the Flames to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
Noteworthy *
The Ottawa Senators sent first-round draft pick Mika Zibanejad back to Swedish club team Djurgardens rather than burn the first year of his entry-level contract.
Zibanejad appeared in nine games for the Senators this season, with one assist and a minus-3 rating. A 10th game with Ottawa would have meant the 18-year-old was sticking in the NHL.
Ottawa can't recall him until his European season is over, unless it's under emergency circumstances.
* The New Jersey Devils claimed forward Ryan Carter on waivers from the Florida Panthers. The Devils said the 5-year veteran will join the team for tonight's game in Phoenix.
* The Rangers, 3-2-2 after seven games, will become the last of the NHL's 30 teams to play their home opener when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. The reason they were away for so long was the first stage of a three-part process to transform Madison Square Garden.
The so-called "World's Most Famous Arena" is getting a facelift. The enormous project won't be finished for 2 years, meaning the Rangers are in line for more long journeys when the arena shuts down the next two summers for more around-the-clock construction.
