Bernie Parent, arguably the most popular player in Flyers history, announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he will play in the Winter Classic alumni game Dec. 31 against the New York Rangers at Citizens Bank Park.

The Hall of Fame goalie tweeted that he decided to play after getting numerous inquiries from fans.

"Flyers fans are the best fans in the world," he tweeted. "I am looking forward to getting back in net for the Alumni game on December 31, 2011."

Mark LaForest and Neil Little are the other Flyers goalies in the game.

Parent, 66, led the Flyers to their only Stanley Cup championships, in 1974 and 1975.

In addition, goalie Ron Hextall was added to the Flyers roster but will serve only as an ambassador to the alumni game.
