FLYERS GENERAL manager Paul Holmgren locked up two of his own on Wednesday, inking forwards Zac Rinaldo and Jay Rosehill to 2-year contract extensions.

Rinaldo, 22, was due to become a restricted free agent in July. Though he's on the shelf for the season with a high ankle sprain, Rinaldo was consistently reliable-and responsible-as a pest for opponents. Rinaldo led the NHL in hits per 60 minutes (14.64) with 143 checks in just 258:06.

"I'm just really honored to be a part of the organization for another 2 years," Rinaldo said. "I'm really pleased where I am right now and I'm ready to fulfill my last 2 years with the Flyers."

Rosehill's signing is a bit more of a surprise. At 27, he was due to become an unrestricted free agent in July, and there wasn't expected to be a list of teams clamoring for his services. The whole "enforcer" role has been going out of style in the NHL. Rosehill has played seven games since being acquired on April 1 from Anaheim for Harry Zolnierczyk.

Rosehill has never been a scorer at any level. He's got six points in 79 career NHL games; 47 points in 327 career AHL games. He's spent almost half his time in the NHL in the box: 459 minutes played and 245 penalty minutes.

"I'm just really excited, a lot of things have changed with me over the last 2 weeks here," Rosehill said. "To feel a part of it right away and then just sign an extension right away, I can't think of a better position for myself right now than with the Flyers."
