Jagr recalls his time with the Flyers

Despite playing just one season for the Flyers, Jaromir Jagr, left a indelible impression. The owner of 681 career NHL goals, Jagr is scheduled to play his first game against his former team Tuesday night when the Boston Bruins visit the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Jagr had 19 goals and 35 assists for 54 points in 73 games with the Flyers last season and added a goal and seven assists in 11 playoff games.

He signed as a free agent with the Dallas Stars in the offseason and was traded to Boston on April 2.

So it was no surprise after Boston's morning skate on Tuesday that Jagr drew a crowd of media.

"I was very happy here, and everybody knew that," Jagr said. "I loved that team, the fans, the city."

He was asked twice if the Flyers ever made an offer to retain him. At the same time, the Flyers were attempting to sign two free agents - defenseman Ryan Suter and left winger Zach Parise. Both players eventually signed with the Minnesota Wild.

"I understand if you give an offer to a free agent, even if you send an offer to those two players for example, you can't offer to somebody else. Because if they grab it, you are over the salary cap. And then what are you going to do?" Jagr said. "So they had to wait if those players said no, and it took them a week."

So while the Flyers chased Suter and Parise, Jagr left for Dallas.

When asked if returning to the Flyers next season was a possibility, the 41-year-old Jagr said, "I don't want to talk about it. I have a job to do here."

Jagr said he has liked his brief time in Boston and lauded those who have done valiant work in light of the Boston Marathon bombings.

"It is sad it happened in Boston, and it can happen anywhere, any time, and it's tough to fight them," he said. "The Boston police and the city of Boston did such a great job, and we really appreciate it."

Led by Jagr, the Bruins snapped a four-game losing streak with Sunday's 3-0 home win over Florida. Jagr scored the game's first goal, giving him 118 career game-winning goals, tying him for first place on the all-time list with Phil Esposito.

For Boston. he has two goals and six assists in nine games.

On Monday, many of the Flyers lauded Jagr for his skill, leadership and especially his work ethic. Boston coach Claude Jilien said more of the same.

"He has shown the younger players what it takes to be a pro, and he is a great teammate," Jilien said. "He is easy to get along with, and he has brought a lot of good things."
