Goalies have come up short when shorthanded

The Flyers' goalies were excellent at even strength last season, but Steve Mason and his teammates struggled when they were shorthanded.

Last season, Mason had just an .829 save percentage - 42nd in the NHL among goalies who played in at least 30 games - while the Flyers were shorthanded.

Michal Neuvirth had an .898 save percentage (eighth) in those situations.

Like Mason, the Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist, one of the league's top goalies, struggled when his team was shorthanded, compiling an .840 save percentage, 40th in the NHL.

At even strength, Mason and Neuvirth were superb. When teams were five-on-five, they combined for a .934 save percentage, which was tops in the league.
