Berube's job not in jeopardy, Flyers' GM says

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. _ Flyers coach Craig Berube's job is not in jeopardy, first-year general manager Ron Hextall said after watching his team practice Friday in suburban Los Angeles.

"I have no plans to replace the coach," Hextall said.

The Flyers (8-13-4) have lost 10 of their last 11 games, including their last six, and they will take a nine-game (0-7-2) road losing streak into Saturday afternoon's game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.

"When you have a team going like we are, it's all of us," Hextall said, spreading the blame. "I've got my fair share of responsibility. So does Chief (Berube) and so do the players, the assistant coaches. We're in this together. We all have a piece of the pie here and we all have to do a better job."

Despite their skid, the Flyers were just six points out of a playoff spot entering Friday's action.

"We need to get a run going here," Hextall said.

The Flyers have lost the first two games of their West Coast  trip, but they have looked much better than before they headed to California.

Because of that, Berube sees hope on the horizon.

"They've played real good hockey these last two games against two real good teams," he said of a 2-1 loss in San Jose and a 5-4 shootout defeat in Anaheim. "They're right there. The San Jose game, they should have had a point at least."

"I think we're going in the right direction, but we play another really strong team (Saturday) and we need to play better," defenseman Mark Streit said. "They're a good defensive team and they have that experience. They don't give up much, and when they do, we have to take advantage of it."
