Walker needs hip surgery

Flyers defenseman Matt Walker, who was acquired as part of the Simon Gagne trade, needs surgery on his left hip for a bony impingement and slight labrum tear.

General manager Paul Holmgren said the injury has been nagging Walker "for a while," Holmgren said, even though he just had surgery on the left hip on Oct. 20.

Walker has yet to play a game for the Flyers this season.
