Wi, Dufner share lead

CHARLIE WI felt a lot better walking off the golf course compared with his last round. Coming off a final round at Innisbrook in which he made a 13 on one hole, Wi hit an 8-iron over the water to 6 feet for birdie on the 18th for a 6-under 66, giving him a share of the lead with Jason Dufner on Thursday in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla. Tiger Woods, a six-time champion at Bay Hill, shot a 69.

 * Top-ranked Yani Tseng shot a 5-under 67 for a share of the first-round lead with Ji Young Oh and Caroline Hedwall at the LPGA's Kia Classic in Carlsbad, Calif.

Playing in her backyard tournament for the first time since 2009, Serena Williams beat wild-card Zhang Shuai, 6-2, 6-3, at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. The victory marked Williams' return to tournament tennis after a 2-month absence. It was her first match at Key Biscayne since she lost to Victoria Azarenka in the final 3 years ago.

* Canada's Denny Morrison won the 1,500-meter speedskating world title in Heerenveen, Netherlands, despite appearing to be hampered by American Shani Davis. Morrison had to hold back to prevent crashing into Davis as the skaters came out of the second bend but managed to retain enough speed to finish first in 1 minute, 46.44 seconds. Davis finished fourth. Martina Sablikova, of the Czech Republic, won the women's 3,000.

Ross Bjork was introduced as Mississippi's athletic director. Bjork, 39, was the Western Kentucky AD the last 2 years.
