Sports in Brief: Bradley beats Furyk to win PGA event

Right when it looked as if Keegan Bradley would need a birdie to force a playoff, he won the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, on Sunday with a par and a four-day total of 267.

Bradley closed with a 6-under-par 64, and the final stroke was the most important - a 15-foot putt to save par from a plugged lie in the bunker.

Jim Furyk, who led for 71 holes, chopped up the 18th hole and made a double bogey to throw away a chance at his first win since the 2010 Tour Championship. Furyk missed the green from the fairway, chipped weakly to five feet, and the bogey putt to force a playoff never had a chance.

Along with winning, Bradley all but wrapped up a spot on the Ryder Cup team.

Bernhard Langer rallied to win the 3M Championship for the second time in four years, shooting a 10-under 62 to overcome a 6-stroke deficit.

The 54-year-old German finished at 18-under 198 at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn., for his 15th Champions Tour title.

AUTO RACING: Scott Dixon took the lead by passing Will Power on pit row on the 57th lap and then held on to capture his fourth IndyCar title in the last six years at Mid-Ohio in Lexington.

SOCCER: Columbus Crew midfielder Kirk Urso died at an Ohio hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

AFL: Nick Davila threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Maurice Purify with nine seconds left, and the Arizona Rattlers advanced to the ArenaBowl for the seventh time, beating the Utah Blaze, 75-69, on Saturday night in the National Conference championship. Arizona will face the Soul Friday night in New Orleans.

HORSE RACING: Irish Mission won the $500,000 Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine in Toronto, beating Aldous Snow by half-length in the 11/2-mile race on the turf course.

Longshot Poseidon's Warrior held off Justin Phillip in the deep stretch to score a stunning upset in the $400,000, Grade 1 Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga Race Course.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Texas Christian coach Gary Patterson said starting quarterback Casey Pachall will not face team discipline after the junior admitted to police in February that he used marijuana and failed a drug test. Pachall has completed drug and alcohol counseling mandated by the university.

TENNIS: The French Open extended its U.S. television contract with NBC through 2024. The new deal will add Memorial Day and women's semifinal coverage to the network.
