NORTON, Mass. - South Korea's Seung-yul Noh, a 21-year-old rising star in his first season on the PGA Tour, birdied his last two holes for a 9-under 62 to take a 2-shot lead Friday in the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Noh played the TPC Boston in the more difficult afternoon conditions and had no problem catching up to Tiger Woods - who had his best opening round in three years - and Jeff Overton, who each had a 64 in the morning.
Noh ran off four straight birdies on the front nine, and finished with a wedge to 5 feet for birdie and his 62 - 1 shot off the course record - and a 1-shot lead over Chris Kirk, whose 23 putts included an eagle on the new 18th hole.
