People feel pretty bad for Phil Mickelson

It was obvious all day that the locals were pulling for Phil Mickelson. He was the only player during the U.S. Open to receive enthusiastic chants that had nothing to do with fried chicken.

Arm rests and grand stands were gripped as he chipped his cataclysmic shot... and watched it drift wide. Another second place finish for Mickelson, whose skills and great character were never in doubt.

It's times like these we have to consider what a man has when he can only finish second?

All Phil Mickelson has to fall back on are his kids, his wife and his tens of millions of dollars.
Feel bad for Phil. He has to battle through another flight to Cali on his private jet with a bed in it to get home. #warrior
May lovable loser Phil Mickelson finally find peace on the long flight home in his $40 million Gulfstream
and now Phil will be whisked away to his personal jet and fly home to his estate near the beach in San Diego. Tough luck.

Second place nets around $700,000, which Phil will have to split with Jason Day.

But all it takes is one sound byte to really makes your guts clench.

Mickelson asked what he took away from this tournament: "Heartbreak... This was my best chance ... of all of them."
