After giving up a first-inning home run, Buena pitcher Brandon Krementz blanked host Washington Township the rest of the way to help the Chiefs claim a 5-1 win in the inaugural South Jersey Invitational tournament yesterday.

the rest of the way to help the Chiefs claim a 5-1 win in the inaugural South Jersey Invitational tournament yesterday.

Bill Rice homered for the Minutemen before Buena rallied behind Dan Faith's single, double and two RBIs, and Krementz's four-hit pitching.

Also at Washington Township, West Deptford needed three runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat Vineland, 8-6, in a first-round game.

Vineland tied the score in the seventh on a two-run double by Alexander Schimmel (three RBIs), but the Eagles answered in the eighth with RBI hits by Scott Renauro (4 for 5), winning pitcher David Giuliani and Jake Rifkin.

At Cherokee, the Chiefs tripped Pennsville, 6-3, as Ben Flanary doubled and homered for five RBIs, and Gary Wilson went 3 for 3 and scored three times.

Gloucester Catholic advanced with an 11-6 success against Absegami, fueled by Bill Eliasen's three hits, and homers by Bill Donovan and D.J. Robinson (3 for 3, two RBIs).

Colonial. Senior righthander Jeff White threw his first no-hitter for Sterling, firing a perfect game at visiting Lindenwold, 8-0. White struck out 14 of the 21 batters he faced and got offensive help from Ryan Franzeo's two hits and two RBIs.

Olympic. Anthony Montefusco's home run put the finishing touches on Shawnee's 3-1 win over visiting Cherry Hill West. In the Renegades' first inning, Brett Knazek singled in John Montemurro, and Matt McAndrew drew a bases-loaded walk to score John Hydock.

Trailing by 7-6 with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the seventh, Paul VI loaded the bases on two hits and a walk, and Kyle Jackson slapped a game-ending two-run single to right to end the Eagles' 8-7 thriller over visiting Timber Creek.

Tri-County. Tom Holmstrom, a senior designated hitter, singled twice, doubled and knocked in five runs for Pitman amid a 12-2 triumph over visiting Clayton.

Cape-Atlantic. Alexi Colon hit for the cycle, including three RBIs and two runs scored, to highlight St. Augustine's 11-1 win at Bridgeton. Rob Carson also homered among the Hermits' 11 hits.

Hammonton outslugged visiting Ocean City, 13-12, with Eric Ettore's single, double and four RBIs.

N.J. Vocational Tournament. Mike Schwartz singled twice and handled the pitching chores for Medford Tech in an 8-0 first-round win over visiting Cape May Tech.

Nonleague. At Cocoa Beach, Fla., Sacred Heart whipped Mapleton (Ohio), 13-3, with a 10-run outburst in the fifth inning. Chris Fullam's two-run double provided a 6-3 lead and Mike Cain went 3 for 3 with three RBIs.

Wildwood rallied from a 7-2 deficit to beat visiting Camden County Tech, 8-7, capped by Kyle Morey's game-tying single in the sixth, followed by Jared DeGroff's RBI single that scored Morey.
