Form held true at the PIAA District 1 Class AA Doubles Championships, but the form was stretched to its limits yesterday at the Healthplex.

Phoenixville's top-seeded pair of Kyle MacLelland and Tom McAvoy won a tough three-set match in the final to take home the title.

MacLelland and McAvoy found themselves down, 5-4, in the third set against the Lower Moreland team of Andrew Lyons and Pat Rounick but pulled out a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win, needing two breaks in the final three games.

Class AAA. Travis Eldridge and Donald Swantko pulled off an impressive upset in the third round of the District 1 Championships.

At the Healthplex, the Conestoga pair, eighth-seeded, knocked off the No. 1 seeded brother team of Matt and Brandon Savran of Lower Merion, 5-6, 6-1, 6-2. They advanced to the semifinals with another three-set win over a higher seed, the Upper Dublin pair of Mike Fortunato and Steve Watson, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 and then defeated Pennsbury's second-seeded team for a trip to the title match.

Sun Valley

.

The Friars (20-9) rallied for four runs in that inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Vanguards came back to score two more in the bottom half, but that rally was quelched by Cowell, who came into the game to get the final two outs and earned a save in support of winning pitcher John Gentile.

In other nonleague games:

William Tennent junior Max Weintraub pitched his first career no-hitter in pitching his team past visiting Unionville, 12-2. Greg Olenski doubled and tripled for Holy Ghost Prep in a 9-8 win at Pennsbury. The Falcons rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but Carmine Prisco came into the game to get the final out with the bases loaded on a strikeout. The Firebirds are now 15-1.

Chris Bartuska delivered a clutch bases-loaded single to drive in the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh for host Conwell-Egan in an 8-7 win over Neshaminy.

GAMP got some work in for three of its pitchers in a 10-0 win at Neumann-Goretti. The Pioneers (14-6) got three innings from winning pitcher Brandon Henson and one apiece from Foster McKoskey and Andrew Caines in preparation for tomorrow's District 12 Class A championship game vs. Philadelphia Academy Charter, which will be held at Sabres Field (7th and Packer), 2:45 p.m. The three pitchers combined on a one-hitter.

Freshman John McCann's successful suicide squeeze in the bottom half of the sixth inning produced the eventual winning run for host Shipley in its 4-3 win over Devon Prep. McCann's squeeze gave the Gators (13-6) a 4-2 lead. The Tide closed the gap in the top half of the seventh inning with a run.

Junior pitcher Steve Boland won his third game in as many starts for host Germantown Academy in a 7-1 win over Lansdale Catholic. John Barr and Joe Conaway homered for the Patriots (19-4).

Sean Cohen's two-run homer in a four-run second inning turned out to be key for Episcopal Academy in a 6-5 win at Hill School.
