District 12 home teams win

It was good to be home in the first round of the District 12 Class AAAA baseball playoffs yesterday.

All five games resulted in lopsided wins, four of them by shutout, by the higher-seeded home teams.

Three of the games, Northeast's 10-0 win over Olney, Washington's 15-0 win over Mastbaum, and Frankford's 18-0 win over Dobbins, were complete-game one-hitters.

Joe Breitweiser pitched a one-hitter for Northeast, Tommy Radziak pitched a one-hitter for Washington, and Esteban Meletiche pitched a one-hitter for Frankford.

Washington put its game away with seven first-inning runs, the key hit a three-run double off the bat of Tim McHale.

In another first-round game, Joe Benek's three-run homer in the first inning got Central off to a good start in a 22-0 win over visiting Bartram. Aaron Esbensen pitched all three innings for the Lancers (11-8), giving up just two hits and striking out seven. Jared Farbman was 3 for 3 with five RBIs.

In the only AAAA game in which the losing team scored, Edison clubbed visiting Lincoln, 14-4, getting a 4-for-4 day from Edwin Padua.

District 12 Class A. Andrew Caines pitched a three-hitter as host GAMP took the title with a 12-0 win over Philadelphia Academy Charter. Caines struck out eight in the five-inning game. Teammate Brandon Henson was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.

District 12 Class AA. In a semifinal game, Mike Bariana and Sean McGovern stroked two-run singles in an eight-run second inning to boost Prep Charter to a 12-1 win at Nueva Esperanza.

District 12 Class AAA. In a semifinal game, Mike Croft crafted a two-hitter for host Franklin Towne Charter in its 6-0 win over Franklin Learning Center. Teammate Eric Krajewski was 3 for 3 with three RBIs.

In the other semifinal, James Paulk pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 as Roxborough advanced with a 2-1 win over Philadelphia Electrical.

Catholic North. Kevin McGovern won his eighth game in as many starts as Archbishop Ryan won at North Catholic, 14-5, clinching first place in the division for the Raiders.

Central. Chris Campli pitched a no-hitter for host Haverford High in its 10-0 win over Strath Haven.

Friends Schools. Rasheed Stewart went 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles as host Germantown Friends clinched first place in the Penn Division with a 15-5 win over Westtown.

St. Basil

, 4-2, in an Association of Catholic Academies semifinal game, thanks to the six-hit pitching of Jamie Kloss.

The Jems scored three runs in the first inning to hand the Panthers their first loss of the season against a league opponent.

In the other semifinal, Gina Cipolloni's grand slam broke open the game and led host Nazareth Academy to a 13-3 win over Villa Maria. Cipolloni's slam turned a 4-1 lead into a 9-1 advantage. Amanda Fernandez pitched a complete game for the Pandas (15-4).

Southern Chester County. Kaitlyn Potter's pitched a one-hitter for host Oxford in a 2-1 win over Great Valley, earning the Hornets a date in the league title game on Thursday at Unionville.

Tri-County. In a first-round playoff, Keri Schrenooko pitched a four-hitter for host Mercy Vocational in a 16-6 win over Woodlynde.
