Pitman High senior forward Tim Matchett, a second-team Inquirer all-South Jersey basketball selection last season, will attend Division II Dominican (N.Y.) College on a full scholarship.

"I just felt comfortable with the coaches and the players and liked the school," Matchett said yesterday. "They said if I work hard, I can contribute a lot in my first year."

The 6-foot-6 Matchett averaged 22.2 points per game last season and led Pitman to a 17-10 record. A "B" student who scored 1,220 on the math/verbal portion of the SAT, he plans to major in business.

Matchett also had offers from Division II colleges such as West Chester, Felician, Clarion and Goldey-Beacom. Rowan was among the Division III colleges that was interested.

Football commitments. Several area football players recently made commitments to colleges, including four from Eastern - quarterback Steve O'Keefe (Fairleigh Dickinson), linebacker Mike Catalano (Albright), offensive tackle Chris Humbrecht (Wesley) and wide receiver Justin Washington (Salisbury).

Northern Burlington announced that senior quarterback Jake Pates is headed to Bryant (R.I.).

"Last year, they were conference champs, and their actuarial science program is one of the best in the country," Pates said.

Holy Cross announced that linebacker Tony Stefanoni and quarterback Tony Santino will attend Ursinus. Stefanoni was one of the area's premier linebackers last fall, making 139 tackles, including 56 solo stops.
