S. Jersey Girls | Triton's Twardziak wins in singles

Top-seeded Kristi Twardziak of Triton took home the singles title, and the doubles crown also went to the No. 1 seed - Shawnee's Katie Cook and Emily Buurma - in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division individual tennis championships held yesterday at Winslow Township.

's Katie Cook and Emily Buurma - in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division individual tennis championships held yesterday at Winslow Township.

After battling past Cherry Hill West's Maria Mitidieri, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals, Twardziak completed her task by ousting Jess Deffler of Shawnee, 6-0, 6-2 in the final. A pair of Shawnee teams squared off in the doubles championship, with Cook and Buurma prevailing, 6-2, 6-0, over Brooke Morgan and Dominique Falcone.

Olympic American. Defending champion Alyssa Style of Cherokee emerged with the singles crown again by ending a spectacular run by unseeded Allison Burkhardt of Cherry Hill East in the finals.

Cape-Atlantic. The top seeds took home the hardware in the league individual championships at Vineland, with Karisse Bendijo of Egg Harbor Township capturing the singles crown, and the Holy Spirit tandem of Nicole Rosenau and Chrissy Seel claiming the doubles title.

Bendijo defeated No. 2 seed Bughra Memon of Atlantic City, 6-2, 6-0. The doubles final was an all-Holy Spirit affair, with Rosenau and Seel pulling out a 6-4, 6-3 victory over their seventh-seeded teammates, Kelsey Frost and Daniella Cassara.

Shawna Wert found the net on a direct free kick 57 seconds into the game, and Lauren Cicatiello went on to make four saves to help host Washington Township nip Bishop Eustace, 1-0. Sara Keane had eight stops in the net for the Crusaders.

Kendra Griffith of Cherry Hill West and Natalie Acciani of host Cherry Hill East each came through with 14 saves, as the teams played to a scoreless draw.

Eastern spread the ball around on offense, led by Steph Merget with a goal and two assists, as the Vikings pummeled host Pennsauken, 7-0. Jess Edelman, Sydney Centrullo and Sam Block each chipped in a goal and an assist.

Lindsey Walsh scored to give Lenape a two-goal lead with 15 minutes to go in regulation, and the Indians held on to nip host Camden Catholic, 2-1.

Colonial. Nicole Rothberg and Caitlyn Pipolo scored one minute apart with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation, helping host Woodbury pull out a 2-0 triumph over Paulsboro. Erin Sharp earned the shutout by turning aside seven shots.

Liberty Division-leading West Deptford improved to 6-0 in conference play by blanking visiting Collingswood, 3-0. Hilary Hurlburt notched her first varsity goal, Jenna Lindsay contributed a goal and an assist and Erin Kennedy made three saves in posting the Eagles' sixth shutout of the season.

Sam Merryfield set up Alex Garvenese's goal late in the first half, and Brooke Szymanski (8 saves) made the lead stand up in host Audubon's 1-0 victory over Haddon Township.

Burlington County. Chelsea Grace and Jen Pacek had two goals apiece and Sam Greenwood posted her fifth shutout of the season, as host Palmyra (7-0) thumped Westampton Tech, 7-0.

Cape-Atlantic. Goals by Tori Fama and Sara Lands allowed Mainland (8-1, 4-0) to defeat host Hammonton, 2-0, and strengthen its hold on the American Conference Division II lead.

Nonleague. Ksenija Sevo netted two goals and Jessica Morgenstern and Taylor Coleman added one each, keying Triton's 4-1 win at Overbrook.

Erika Wachter had a hat trick and Egg Harbor Township widened its lead in the American Conference Division I race by dominating host Absegami, 5-1. Emily Czar and Rachael Dix also scored for the Eagles (7-1, 4-0), while Laura Pietropola had the lone goal for second-place Absegami (5-1-1, 2-1).

Jessica Cox and Jessica Atkinson scored two goals apiece in Millville's 7-0 romp past visiting Vineland.

Olympic. Sophomore Anna Birnbaum made two saves in recording a shutout in her first varsity start, and Liane Tellier scored off a feed from Kaitlyn Alexander in the first half to make Cherry Hill East a 1-0 winner at Winslow Township.

Laura Rose, Marisa Schoetflin and Jamie Piotrowicz supplied the scoring and netminder Caroline Baptiste made six saves for host Washington Township in a 3-1 win over Bishop Eustace.

Maggie Fallon's two goals were more than enough for host Camden Catholic, which leveled Lenape, 6-0.

Nonleague. Lee-Ann Hawco's goal early in the second half enabled Audubon to hand host Moorestown Friends (6-1-1) its first loss, 1-0.

Colleen Slaughter scored one goal and set up a pair, highlighting Ocean City's multi-pronged attack in a 7-0 out of visiting Cumberland. Katie Corson and Erin Thomas each added a goal and an assist.

Gateway received two goals from Kacy Maska and shutout goaltending by Brittany Galloway in turning back visiting Penns Grove, 2-0.
