, 6-1, yesterday in the South Jersey Boys' Soccer Coaches Association tournament semifinals at Eastern.

After falling behind the top-seeded Red Devils (15-2-1) on a goal by Manny Payton five minutes into the game, Washington Township (12-1-2) rallied with goals from five players, scoring three goals in each half.

The fourth-seeded Minutemen (13-1-2) will face Ocean City, a 1-0 winner over Cinnaminson in the first game of the doubleheader, for the title next weekend at Eastern.

"I was a little worried, because we played such a tough game" in a 2-0 win over Lenape on Saturday, Washington Township coach Tom Patterson said. "I think their goal kind of woke us up. Obviously, they're young guys, so I thought, 'OK, here it goes.' The game was played well, and the goals came."

Kleinstuber tied the game five minutes after Payton scored just the fourth goal allowed by Minutemen goalie Kevin McMullen this season. Nico Scarpato put Township ahead, and Mike Dunn, Kleinstuber, John Cicalese and Jon McWilliams followed with goals as Township matched its season high for goals in a game.

The veteran Washington Township squad includes nine seniors. Junior Ryan Hornibrook joined seniors Anthony Verchio, John Adamo and Dunn in the defensive quartet in front of McMullen, who made three saves.

"The defense showed a lot of maturity," Patterson said. "We kept it together against a real good team. It was a lot closer game than the score shows."

In the semifinal showdown of Ocean City's high-powered offense (44 goals in 17 games) against Cinnaminson's stingy defense (3 goals allowed in 17 games), Ocean City got an early goal and held on for a 1-0 triumph.

Neal Melchionni scored the goal seven minutes, 10 seconds into the game, and goalie John Fogarty posted his 10th shutout and third in a row for the second-seeded Red Raiders (17-0-1).

By blanking the third-seeded Pirates (16-2), Ocean City will get a chance for its second South Jersey Coaches Tournament title in three years.

Gloucester Catholic and Haddonfield, the last two remaining unbeaten teams in South Jersey, suffered their first losses yesterday in the South Jersey Coaches Association Tournament semifinals at Eastern.

Washington Township (16-1-1) secured a 2-0 win over Haddonfield (17-1) with a pair of second-half goals.

Janine Valerio, the Minutemaids' leading scorer with 12 goals this fall, provided the assist on the game-winning goal, setting up Katie Margiotta's one-timer from seven yards out, breaking the scoreless deadlock 11 minutes after intermission.

Shawna Wert added an insurance goal with 11 minutes left on a 20-yard shot into the lower right corner off a pass from Kim Krauss.

Dana Wert, Shawna's twin sister and the Minutemaids' stopper, did a solid job marking the Bulldogs' 19-goal scorer, Maggie Lupinski.

The Township defense also featured sweeper Erin Kelly and goalie Lauren Cicatiello, who made seven saves for her 10th shutout and second in a row.

Lenape (15-2-1) ended Gloucester Catholic's string of 16 wins without a loss with a 1-0 verdict in the other semifinal.

After playing 73 scoreless minutes, Indians senior Jen Pfeiffer got loose for her seventh goal of the season, hitting an eight-yard shot into the corner of the net after taking a cross from junior forward Natalia Torosian.

"We've played six overtime games this year," Lenape coach Kevin Meder, "and I told the team even before the game started that we've been tested before and came through.

"We tried to stay patient and hope for a breakdown [by Gloucester Catholic] and we eventually caught them."

The Indians, who have 10 shutouts this fall, got 13 saves by goalie Sarah Zieman, while Carolyn Wiley marked the Rams' Nicolette DeLaurentis, who had three goals in a quarterfinal win over Cherokee.

Also, Carley Carmody helped hold Gloucester Catholic's Jennie Vartebedian, who has 22 goals this season, without a score.

Lenape, which owns a 1-0 win and a 3-3 tie against Washington Township in a pair of Olympic Conference matchups this fall, will face the Minutemaids for the title on next weekend at Eastern.
