'Year of the guard' in the Colonial

Tom Mulligan has been watching teams come and go in the Colonial Conference since he took the helm at Haddon Township 16 seasons ago. So, when he makes an observation, people take note.

"This is the year of the guard," Mulligan said.

Haddon Township's backcourt ace is senior Liz Gercke. A point guard, she is strong offensively and defensively and is joined by junior Jen Jakimiak.

Collingswood has guard/forwards Lauren Gregg and the Crites twins, Brielle and Aja. All are seasoned seniors.

West Deptford will look to point guard Marlee Schramm and Jenna Lindsay, both seniors.

Haddonfield features Emily Grabiak, a point guard who averaged eight points, four assists and four steals as a freshman. She complements senior guard/forward Annie Maloney, who is on her way to 1,000 career points.

Sterling returns two players with varsity experience, and one of them is senior guard Lauren Easterday.

In his first season, Lindenwold coach Mike Kouser is happy to welcome back junior guard Shayla Banks, a quick-footed scorer.

Haddon Heights first-year head coach John Senft will depend on senior Caitlin Setter and sophomore Alexis English.
