Neshaminy's Steinberg sets sprint mark

People can easily remember Troy Vincent as a standout defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles. Perhaps they can look back and recall his excellent college career at Wisconsin or his high school exploits at Pennsbury. But how many can say that they remember him as a great sprinter?

At Council Rock North, his record in the 100-meter dash, set in the late 1980s, fell at the Council Rock Kiwanis Invitational yesterday.

Kevin Steinberg of

Neshaminy

did the trick, posting a winning time of 10.73 seconds, shattering the previous record of 10.84 set by Vincent and three other runners. Steinberg also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.53 seconds.

Central Bucks South

won the team title with 91 points, 13 points ahead of runner-up and defending champion

Coatesville

The Titans were paced by Derek Hynes who won the pole vault with a record leap of 15-2. He broke the record of 15-0 set in 1995 by Sean Serafin of

. Rob Turchick took part in three wins by South. He took the triple jump with a distance of 43-2, then ran on the winning 4 x 100-meter (43.69) and sprint medley (1 minutes, 36.07 seconds) relays.

Chestnut Hill Academy Relays.

Phil Thomas won the long jump and the high jump for the host Blue Devils and won the Bill Harper Outstanding Performer award.

Thomas won the long jump with a meet-record leap of 21-9, breaking his own record of 21-6 set last season. He also won the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-2.

Hill School Relays.

Royce Brown and Sam Odle combined to throw nine inches farther than

Peddie School (N.J.)

in the javelin relay and won with a total distance of 271-10 for the host Blues.

went on to place second in the team standings behind

Gilman School (Md.)

The Blues also won the distance medley relay with a team of Trevor Cordivari, George Raad, Tyler Gofus and Richard Lafferty with a time of 11:19.70 and the long jump relay with a team of Alfred Graves and Eric Chang with a distance of 39-6.

Westtown

was also a winner, taking the high jump relay with a team of Matt Lee and Phabinly Gabriel at a combined height of 11-4.

On the girls' side,

Penn Charter

took 12 events at the Hill School Relays, coasting to the team title.

The Quakers won every event except the 4x800-meter relay, which went to

Nikki Guynn anchored victories in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, while Khaaleedah Smith was the lead runner in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and the sprint medley relay.

The Riverso brothers combined for four hits and four runs and led

Mike Riverso hit a single and a home run and drove in three runs, while brother Dom hit a single, a double and knocked in a pair of runs.

Matt Lipson and Matt Baureis each collected three hits. Lipson hit a triple and drove in three runs while Baureis hit a double and knocked in two runs.
