Pennsville's Dawn Curry stroked her 100th hit yesterday in a 15-0 victory over Tri-County Classic rival Clayton.
Her teammate, Rachel Coleman, pitched a perfect game in the five-inning contest, striking out 10.
Curry, a senior shortstop, had already surpassed 100 goals in soccer and 1,000 points in basketball, making her the only athlete in school history to pull off that feat.
"I'm just relieved that it's over," Curry said. "Now I can focus more on the team winning than my accomplishment.
"I never thought I'd be in my shoes now as a freshman. I always set goals, but never this far, where I'd break a milestone for each sport. I am 18 and I won't recognize how good this is until I get older."
Curry's 100th hit came on a bunt single in the third inning against Clayton pitcher Val Perretti with Julia Morgan on second and the Eagles (4-0 overall, 4-0 conference) leading, 9-0.
Pennsville coach Herb Bacon called a time-out after the historic hit and asked the umpire for the ball, which he presented to Curry on first base as her teammates cheered.
Curry walked in the first inning and stroked a single in the second to score Lindsay Snajkowski with Pennsville's fourth run.
"Dawn's reaction was very modest," Pennsville assistant Beth Jackson said. "She just stood there and waited, and Herb gave her a hug. She was like 'OK, the play is over, let's get the game going.' "
"The goals were the toughest [milestone] to get," said Curry, who will play soccer at Holy Family next year. "I needed 21 in my senior year."
Curry scored 34 goals to finish her career with 113.
