Hatboro-Horsham
in the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA softball championship played at Spring-Ford.
Marie Dispenziere began the rally with a single, Marla Benzenhafer bunted her way on base, both scored on Yablon's two-base hit, and then Kelly Schymanski, Jen Beaver and Megan Hodgson followed with RBI singles.
Schymanski lost her shutout bid in the bottom of the 10th, but wound up with 14 strikeouts and no walks in going the distance for the win. Amanda Sadowl also pitched all 10 innings in taking the loss.
Both teams will advance to the Monday's state tournament.
District 1 Class AA.
Morgan Sauermann beat the throw home on Kate Harvey's grounder to short in the second inning, providing all the offense Jessica Killoran would need to pitch No. 2 seed
St. Pius X
past top-seeded
Villa Joseph Marie
, 1-0, in the championship game at Norristown.
It was the second consecutive year that the Winged Lions had defeated Villa Joe for the district title.
Killoran, who struck out six and walked none while scattering four singles, worked out of a bases-loaded none-out jam in the fifth by sandwiching a strikeout with a pair of groundouts.
Jems senior Jamie Kloss took the loss, despite allowing just three hits - one over the final five innings.
St. Pius X (11-10) will look to continue its run in next week's state tournament.
District 1 Class A.
Top-seeded
Bristol
claimed its second consecutive championship - and seventh in nine seasons - by knocking off No. 3 seed
Christopher Dock
, 5-1, at Plymouth-Whitemarsh.
Shawna Walp fanned nine and limited the Pioneers to two hits in earning the win, and batted 3 for 4, scored twice and drove in one run out of the leadoff hole for the Warriors.
Bristol (19-2), which defeated Christopher Dock by scores of 8-0 and 13-3 during the regular season, took the lead in the fourth inning by piecing together a three-run rally. Walp's infield hit drove in one, a sacrifice fly by Brooke Dugger chased home another, and the third run scored on a passed ball.
Leftfielder Samantha Dougherty came up with the defensive play of the game for the state tourney-bound Warriors, catching a line drive and doubling a runner off base.
