Lacrosse final closing an era

There may be an Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) next year, but it won't look exactly like this year's version.

There may be an Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) next year, but it won't look exactly like this year's version.

With La Salle and the rest of the Catholic League set to join the PIAA in the fall, and with the PIAA assuming authority over member lacrosse teams, the EPSLA will have to continue without some of its best teams.

That means that tonight's EPSLA championship game between La Salle and Malvern Prep signals the end of an era.

The game, scheduled for 7:30 at Garnet Valley, pits teams that are familiar. La Salle beat Malvern Prep, 7-6, on April 17. Tonight's winner will move on to Saturday's Keystone Cup against the winner from the Western Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association.

In the PIAA girls' lacrosse tournament, Great Valley and Springfield (D) are scheduled to play at 6 tonight at Marple Newtown for the District 1 Class AA championship. At 8 at Marple Newtown, Radnor will meet Bayard Rustin for the District 1 Class AAA championship.

Also tonight, at 7, the Central Bucks West girls' soccer team will play Lower Dauphin in the state Class AAA semifinals at Exeter Township. A victory will send West into Friday's championship game, at 7 p.m. at HersheyPark Stadium in Hershey, against the winner of tonight's other semifinal.

In that game, Central Dauphin will play Wilson at 7:30 at HersheyPark Stadium.
