Ravi Yegya-Raman has a date with history today, when the

Cherry Hill East

senior will attempt to become the fifth player to win the NJSIAA state singles boys' tennis championship for a second time - and just the third to claim back-to-back titles.

Yegya-Raman, the reigning champ and top seed, battled back to defeat Will Kendall of

Millburn

, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-1, in yesterday's semifinals at the Inman Sports Club in Edison.

Today's title match between Yegya-Raman and second-seeded Mike Lampa, of

Ocean Township

, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Mercer County Park.

Softball

Maggie Kurts closed out her rookie season yesterday with a performance to build on.

Kurts batted 2 for 3 and scored a run, but her key contribution came in the field. With two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh inning, the

Burlington City

freshman first baseman scooped a low throw out of the dirt to end the game.

The play ensured the host Blue Devils' 3-2 victory over

Florence

in the season finale for both teams, and prevented the Flashes (10-2 league) from claiming a share of the Burlington County League Freedom Division title. New Egypt (11-1) won the division crown outright.

Megan Craft contributed two hits, one run and one RBI for Burlington City (9-3), which jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Blue Devils widened the advantage to 3-0 in the fourth, when Rebecca Treusch raced home from third on a groundout by Brittany Jones.
