Pa. Girls: Springside prevails to gain tourney final

A week ago, Friends' Central beat Springside at the buzzer for the title of the Hill School basketball tournament.

Springside gets a chance at revenge tonight (5:30 p.m.) against the host school in the final of the Friends' Central Tournament.

The Lions (5-1) got 11 rebounds from 5-foot-4 junior forward Courtney Caputo in a 57-25 win over Franklin Learning Center.

Friends' Central took care of its half of the bracket by beating Academy Park, 57-31, as Crystal Ross scored 14 points.

Stephanie Holzer scored half of Cardinal O'Hara's 16 first-quarter points in a 62-24 win over visiting Conwell-Egan.

With six seconds left in overtime, Towanda Sutton hit a layup, was fouled, and made the free throw to give host Cardinal Dougherty a 65-62 win over Neumann-Goretti. Sutton, a 5-foot-10 forward bound for Rhode Island, finished with 21 points. Teammate Brenna Coll, a sophomore, led all scorers with 28 points.
