Pa. Girls: Springfield (Delco) spreads success around the court

Springfield (Delaware County) made a case for basketball being a team game yesterday. The Cougars (6-0) placed four starters in double figures and the other one had nine points in a 59-41 Central League win over visiting Strath Haven.

Kelyn Freeman's 19 points and six rebounds led host Radnor past Marple Newtown, 63-54.

Amy Woods scored 13 points for Lower Merion in a 51-27 win at Conestoga.

Upper Darby got 14 points from Diamond Beckford in a 43-27 win at Garnet Valley.

MyNeshia McKenzie and Kristen Quinn each scored 12 points and were followed by two 10-point efforts from Sam Tulskie and Maddy McKnight. Jen Houtmann added nine points for the Cougars.

Jen Egee's 12 points helped Ridley to a 35-33 win at Haverford High.

Charlotte Beebe scored nine of her 10 points in a crucial stretch of the second half for Penncrest in a 47-37 win at Harriton. She scored seven points as the Lions went on a 15-6 third-quarter run. Teammate Caroline Moore led all scorers with 13 points, nine coming via three-point shots.

Kathleen Durkin scored 18 points to pace Archbishop Prendergast to a 48-30 win at West Catholic.

Towanda Sutton hit two free throws with four seconds left to give Cardinal Dougherty a 42-40 win at St. Hubert. Sutton finished with 25 points to lead all scorers.

Chelsea Kada hit two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to seal Little Flower's 43-39 win at Conwell-Egan.

Ashley White's 22 points, seven assists and five steals lifted host Neumann-Goretti past Bishop McDevitt, 74-41.

Hollie Mershon scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds for host Archbishop Carroll in a 65-35 win over Kennedy-Kenrick.

Archbishop Wood's Ashley Robinson scored 13 points and added 12 rebounds in a 54-26 win over Lansdale Catholic.

Penn Charter made 13 of its 16 free throws in a 48-32 win over visiting Episcopal Academy. The Quakers (5-1) were led by Dianna Thomas-Palmer's 14 points.

Emily Corzel made 10 of her 12 free-throw attempts and finished with 18 points to lead St. Basil to a 54-35 win at Merion Mercy.

Sophomore Steph Smith scored 10 of her 23 points in the third quarter to power host Mount St. Joseph past Villa Joseph Marie, 58-30.

Bicentennial.

Hilary Leifsen, a 5-foot-11 senior center, scored 20 points to lead host Jenkintown to a 51-26 win over visiting Morrisville.

Nicole Dougherty scored 16 of her 22 points in the first half to get Lower Moreland off to a good start in a 66-19 win over visiting Girard College. Lindsay Alexander added 16 points and Nicole Cataline 10 for the Lions.

Samantha Dougherty had 14 rebounds and four steals for host Bristol in a 35-25 win over MaST Charter.

Suburban One Continental.

Shakia Robinson scored 17 points to lead host North Penn past rival Souderton, 48-33. The Maidens (2-4, 2-1) took control with a 14-4 first quarter followed by a 13-7 second to lead 27-11 at the half. Brittany Sandone led the Indians with 10 points.

Suburban One American.

Monet Constant knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead Cheltenham to a 55-15 win over visiting Upper Merion.

Mercedes Harris scored 15 points to help Norristown race past host Springfield (Montco), 55-47.

Wissahickon went on a 15-0 run to open the game and finished with a 58-50 win at Upper Dublin. The Trojans were led by Kristen Fuery's 14 points.

Friends Schools. Sophomore Celeste Golub scored a career-high 17 points and added eight rebounds and two steals to lift Shipley to a 63-30 win at Westtown.

Nonleague.

Abington Friends got 22 points from Kelsey Clark in a 47-36 win over New Beginnings. Angie Adams added 10 points for the Kangaroos (3-3).

Interboro's Jody Boon got her first win as head coach in a 47-22 win at St. George's Tech (Del.).
