Lincoln wrestlers pin loss on Central

Lincoln's wrestling team needed five pins to record its first win in 15 years over host Central, 49-18, yesterday. The Railsplitters got two first-period pins, from heavyweight Roman Griggs and Michael McGlashen (189 pounds), and two third-period pins - Jonathan Gomez (145) and Isairas Yaro (160)

The Railsplitters got two first-period pins, from heavyweight Roman Griggs and Michael McGlashen (189 pounds), and two third-period pins - Jonathan Gomez (145) and Isairas Yaro (160)

The Railsplitters had not beaten the Lancers in the sport since December 1993.

In other league matches:

Washington thumped host Franklin Towne Charter, 69-6, as Anthony Tamburro (140), Daniel Karmiev and Nariman Lomidze (215) earned pins.

Olney got an impressive decision at 171 from Stefon Broughton to clinch a 45-31 win at Frankford. The Trojans also got a 58-second pin from Abdiel Rodriquez at 103 pounds.

Northeast ran its record to 7-1 with a 52-18 win over visiting Overbrook as the Vikings got first-period pins from Yong Peng (125) and heavyweight Anthony Nieves.

Edison got a pin at 215 to go up by six and finished with a 45-33 win over visiting Kensington, the first 4-0 start in school history. Emil Sauris earned a second-period pin at 215 to put the Owls up for good.

Catholic.

Cardinal O'Hara registered four first-period pins in a 40-38 win at St. Joseph's Prep. The Lions benefited from a forfeit to open the match at 215 and were able to win it when the Hawks, up by 38-34, had to forfeit the 189-pound bout. The highlight for O'Hara came at heavyweight, where Frank Peaschek's first-period pin gave the Lions a 12-0 lead. St. Joseph's Prep's most impressive performance was a 16-second pin by Jack Brenner at 103.

Brian Barnaby had an 18-second pin in the 160-pound bout to highlight Father Judge's 48-22 win over visiting Conwell-Egan. Teammate Tim Walker pinned his opponent in 53 seconds at 152.

Three freshmen helped host La Salle past rival North Catholic, 41-23. Bryan Pflanz earned a decision at 103 and Casey Kent registered a first-period pin at 112 while Matt Cimato beat Dave Davidson, 8-0, at 125.

Central.

Radnor topped host Lower Merion, 62-9. The Red Raiders Dave Page pinned Bob Chase in 1 minute, 11 seconds at 215 pounds for the quickest pin of the night.

Haverford High beat visiting Ridley, 39-38. The Fords led, 33-24, and held on behind Luke Bilyeu pinned his opponent in the 125-pound weight class in 3:31 to put the Fords (1-1) up, 39-29.

Friends Schools.

Westtown got back-to-back pins from George Cauffman (119) and Ian Yamaguchi (125) in a 73-3 win at George School.

Cary Snider's pin at 125 gave host Friends' Central a 30-18 lead in a 60-24 win over Abington Friends. Jake Segal had a 58-second pin for the Kangaroos at 130.

Boys' Basketball

Tre Harry scored only four points, but half of them came on a putback at the buzzer to lift Hill School to a 47-46 win at Penn Charter.

Academy of the New Church got 14 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocked shots from Malcolm Gilbert, a 6-foot-11 sophomore, in a 62-48 win at Solebury School.

Reading got a layup from Delvan Brown at the end of the regulation and two free throws from Marcus Dawkins at the end of the first overtime to extend the game and win at Chester, 76-72, in double overtime.

Brian Loesser's 24 points lifted Plumstead Christian to a 56-54 win at Community Academy of Philadelphia.

Tyler Hunt and Sam Jung each knocked down three three-point shots for Masterman in a 72-32 win at CAPA.

Spring-Ford went on a 14-2 run to close out the game and in a 48-31 win at Perkiomen Valley. Doug Berzins scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half to pace the Rams

Penn-Jersey.

International Christian remained unbeaten in league play with an 84-63 win over visiting De La Salle. Farley Lloyd had 21 points for the Titans (6-2 overall, 2-0 league).

Boys' Swimming

Hill School topped host Friends' Central in a nonleague match, 101-69, but John Armstrong provided a highlight for the Phoenix by breaking his own school record in the 100-yard freestyle relay. Armstrong covered the distance in 49.30 seconds, nipping the mark he established last season of 49.70.

Girls' Basketball

Friends' Central became the first 10-0 team in Southeastern Pennsylvania by beating visiting Little Flower, 55-25, in a nonleague game.

The Phoenix got 18 points from Crystal Ross and 10 assists from sophomore point guard Monaye Merritt.

Chichester scrambled from a four-point deficit with 1:10 left to stun visiting Norristown, 44-43. In the final minute, Kellie Pace hit a three-pointer and a layup sandwiched around a Jill Curran steal and a layup. Pace finished with 18 points to lead the Eagles. Norristown had an open look and a shot that rimmed around the net and went out at the buzzer.

Kristen Lindrooth led a group of three players in double figures, scoring 15 points, for Academy of the New Church in a 41-38 win at Upper Moreland.

Shani Weiss scored 16 points to lead Stern Hebrew to a 44-37 win at Barrack Hebrew. The Cougars were led by freshman Tamara Moskowitz, who had 12 points, nine steals and seven assists.

Shanyae Glenn had 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to rally Hill School to a 41-31 win at Abington Friends. Glenn went over the 1,000-point mark for her career.

Helen Levins had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead host Masterman past New Media Charter, 51-26.

Freire Charter placed five players in double figures, led by Dakia Manning's career-high 17 points, in a 95-26 win over visiting Mariana Bracetti.

Paige Dolan scored 19 points to lead Franklin Towne Charter to a 53-42 win at Rhodes.

Shaahida Speedwell's 15 points helped visiting Fels race past Washington, 47-40.

Mia Waring scored 17 points as host Swenson turned back Philadelphia Academy Charter, 36-17.

Central got 15 points from Janaa Pickard in a 61-14 win at Martin Luther King.
