The Saints (4-1), who had to play Archbishop Wood in Warminster on Friday night, thumped Akron's legendary St. Vincent-St. Mary, 76-64, as Daniel Stewart scored 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.

The game was one of four involving Philadelphia Catholic League schools in a 10-team Cancer Research Classic showcase event held at the Jesuit University McDonough Center.

The Akron school, currently 7-3, is famous for winning a USA Today mythical national championship when current Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James played there in 2003. He left for the NBA after graduation.

In other showcase games:

Bishop McNamara (Md.) thumped reigning Catholic League champion North Catholic, 69-39, as Pittsburgh-bound Talib Zanna, a 6-foot-9 forward, scored 18 points.

Rice (N.Y.) beat Roman Catholic, 81-71, despite 29 points from Rakeem Brookins.

Pete Buzby made five of his seven shots from the field and finished with 12 points to lead St. Joseph's Prep past hometown favorite Wheeling Central Catholic, 44-32. Buzby, who added 13 rebounds and four assists, was named game MVP.

Boys Latin (Md.) Tournament

. Will Wise scored 15 points and pulled down 18 rebounds as Abington Friends grabbed third place in the tournament with a 64-40 win over Baltimore Friends.

MJG Foundation Tournament.

At Trinity College (D.C.), Jeff Lord scored 12 points and added 11 rebounds to power Math, Civics and Science to a 78-71 win over New Town (Md.) in the third-place game. Jose Ortiz led the Mighty Elephants with 23 points.

Suburban One National.

Dalton Pepper's 21 points powered Pennsbury past visiting Abington, 67-44.

Ches-Mont.

Jon Warmijak, a 6-foot-5 forward, scored 21 points to lead Coatesville to a 76-42 win at Oxford.

John Rowland's 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots powered host West Chester Henderson past Great Valley, 51-44.

Pioneer Athletic.

Host Upper Perkiomen outscored Methacton, 19-11, in the final quarter of a 58-50 win. Tom Paul scored 18 points and knocked down three three-pointers to pace the Tribe.

George Harper had 12 rebounds for host Phoenixville in a 57-53 win over Perkiomen Valley.

Ross Reber scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half for host St. Pius X in a 76-70 win over Spring-Ford. Ed McKeon led the Winged Lions with 23 points. Doug Berzins led the Rams with 31.

Nonleague.

Dan Costello made 10 of his 12 fourth-quarter free throws to help Council Rock North past visiting Conrad Weiser, 51-35.

Matt Kane scored only three points, but he came up with a pair of blocked shots in overtime to lift host Hatboro-Horsham past neighborhood rival Upper Moreland, 54-52. Down in overtime, Connor Poston's old-fashioned three-point play (field goal, followed by free throw) gave the Hatters (4-6) the lead for good.

Wrestling

Doug Forlano's bump up from 125 pounds turned out to be fortuitous for Norristown in a 31-30 nonleague win over visiting Methacton.

Forlano, normally a 125-pounder, moved up to go against Brendan Bright in the final bout of the day, 130, and registered a 5-0 decision for the team victory.

Pioneer Athletic.

Spring-Ford's Sean Herron pinned Dominic Peloro in 12 seconds at 135 pounds to highlight a 66-9 win at St. Pius X.

Teammate Justin Franiak, a heavyweight, decked Mike Furey in 35 seconds.

Indoor Track and Field

Dustin Wilson's mile victory highlighted the Division II portion of the Track and Field Coaches Association Meet of Greater Philadelphia at Lehigh University.

Wilson covered the distance in 4 minutes, 34 seconds flat, beating second-place finisher George Dixon of Strath Haven by three seconds (4:37.0).
