Pa. Girls: White's free throws help Neumann-Goretti to win

Free-throw practice has apparently paid dividends for Ashley White and the Neumann-Goretti basketball team. White was perfect on six free-throw attempts in the final 2 minutes and led the Saints past host West Catholic, 50-43, in a Catholic League game yesterday.

Neumann-Goretti (4-5, 2-3) held a 44-43 lead with 1 minute, 13 seconds left when White nailed six straight free throws. She scored 20 points, including a 10 for 15 effort from the free-throw line. The Saints were 11 for 12 from the line in the final quarter and 15 for 23 for the game.

Lansdale Catholic evened its league record at 2-2 after getting past host Little Flower, 44-42.

Shea Wassel scored 15 points for the Crusaders.

Shannon Mack scored 13 of her 36 points over two overtime periods, grabbed 25 rebounds, and led Hallahan past host Bishop McDevitt, 65-59.

Viola Poole scored 5 of her 29 points in overtime and led Academy Park past visiting Chichester, 59-52.

Malika Staples poured in 27 points and sparked Chester to a 71-44 win over host Penn Wood.

Erin Donnelly accounted for 15 points and helped Octorara edge host Oxford, 45-41.

Stephanie Schultz contributed 22 points for Pottsgrove in a 54-46 win over visiting Spring-Ford.

Lindsay Alexander came through with 27 points and boosted Lower Moreland to a 60-51 win over host New Hope-Solebury.

Carolyn Smith scored 6 of her 16 points during a 17-4 first quarter and sparked Jenkintown to a 59-45 win over host Calvary Christian.

Delco Christian raced to a 29-7 lead in the first quarter and the Knights went on to beat host Morrisville, 47-22.

Emily Homan paced Delco Christian with 14 points.

Catholic Academies.

Ashley Baxter and Emily Corzel each drained two free throws in the final 1:30 and led Merion Mercy to a 42-38 win over host Sacred Heart.

Corzel scored 10 points and Baxter added seven points for the Golden Bears.

Jen Sabia struck for 17 points and led Mount St. Joseph to a 43-34 win over visiting Villa Maria.

St. Basil was nearly perfect from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and beat visiting Nazareth Academy, 53-41.

The Panthers were 11 for 12 from the line down the stretch when they outscored the Pandas, 13-8. Carolyn Edwards and Mary Ellen McCollum each scored 11 points for St. Basil.

Villa Joseph Marie pulled away from visiting Gwynedd-Mercy in the third quarter and eased to a 39-18 victory.

Melissa Van Wert scored 11 points for the Jems.

Anna Janisch converted a layup with 10 seconds left and handed Kimberton Waldorf a 32-31 win over visiting West-Mont Christian.

Janisch finished the game with 25 points.

Erica Hankerson struck for 21 points and boosted Mercy Vocational to a 44-23 win over visiting Del-Val Friends.

Perkiomen School held visiting Barrack Hebrew to 10 points in the first half and beat the Cougars, 49-27.

Brittany Slattery scored 15 points for the Indians who grabbed a 22-10 lead in the first half.

Ann Silverthorn picked up 13 points and helped Council Rock South beat visiting Souderton, 52-36.
