Pa. Girls: Sun Valley starts off slow, then defeats Penncrest with big finish
Sun Valley scored just 28 points over the first three quarters of its nonleague basketball game at Penncrest yesterday. The Vanguards (10-2) needed to score nearly that many to cap a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback in a 53-48 win.

They outscored the Lions, 25-12, in the final quarter, keyed by a pair of three-pointers from guard Jenna Crowley. Those accounted for six of her eight points.
Three other starters all reached double figures, led by Kelly Custer's 14 points and Sam Wilson's 12 and Ashley Montecchio's 11. Penncrest's Charlotte Beebe led all scorers with 22 points.
In other nonleague games:
Kaitlin Seeling and Jenessa Derstine each scored 11 points for host Christopher Dock in a 49-45 win over Phoenixville. Seeling added seven rebounds for the Pioneers.
Imhotep Charter got 24 points from Lakeisha Thomas in an 80-66 win over visiting Penn Wood. Tyneisha Whitsette led the Patriots with 32 points.
Trish Watson scored nine points on three-pointers in the first quarter alone to get host Conwell-Egan off to a good start in a 66-35 win over Fairless Hills' rival Pennsbury. Watson finished with 12 points, but teammate Carmen Tyson-Thomas led all scorers with 17 points.
Penn Charter outscored host West Catholic, 18-5, in the second quarter of 59-27 win. The Quakers (9-5) were led by Aleesha Powell, who scored 13 points, and Brianna Butler, who added 12.
Danya McCrewell scored all 15 of her points in the first half to lead host Cheltenham past former Suburban One American rival Methacton, 42-34. The Panthers (10-1) also got 12 points from Monet Constant and 13 rebounds from Jenna Peoples.
Mid-Atlantic Prep.
Hill School outscored visiting Mercersburg Academy, 10-5, in the final quarter of a 47-45 victory in the league opener for both schools. Ellen Dvorak chipped in 18 points and nine rebounds and Shanyae Glenn added 17 points for the Blues.
Catholic Academies.
Mary Jo Horgan had 14 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals to lead unbeaten Mount St. Joseph to a 47-31 win at Merion Mercy.
Sophomore forward Steph Smith added 13 points for the Magic (14-0, 7-0 league).
Devin Shea's 16 points powered host St. Basil to a 51-36 win over Villa Joseph Marie. The Panthers (10-2) led, 20-10, at the end of the first quarter and 29-22 at the half. Jacqui Thompson added 10 points for the Panthers.
Carolyne Heston shot well from the field for the Jems and scored 16 points.
Erin Mann and Ellen Cannon proved to be an effective inside-out combination for host Villa Maria in a 48-33 win over Gwynedd-Mercy.
Cannon's four three-pointers opened things up the paint for Mann, who chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Villa Maria is now 7-3, 3-1 league.
Shannon O'Brien's 11 points led the Monarchs.
Ches-Mont.
Becca Ruggear's eight second-quarter points keyed a 14-3 run in the second quarter for Oxford in a 44-29 win at Kennett.
Ruggear finished with 18 points to lead the Hornets.
Indoor Track and Field
North Penn's Christy Cohick covered the 3,000 meters in 10 minutes, 28.3 seconds to set a new Haverford College Fieldhouse record to highlight the Delaware Valley Girls Track Coaches Association meet.
Cohick's time qualified her for the state meet. Eight girls ran state-qualifying times in that event and all eight broke the fieldhouse record of 10:53.0.
Hispanic Games.
At the Armory in Manhattan, a pair of Swenson athletes turned in outstanding performances.
Shanae Bailey won the 200 meters in the time of 24.30, which represents the best by any Pennsylvania athlete this indoor season. Teammate Anthonia Ballard took third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.29).
Ice Hockey
Sarah Wilkinson had a hat trick for half of host Strath Haven's goals in a 6-1 Central League win over Lower Merion in a game played late Friday night.
