Pa. Boys: FLC hoopsters capture title

Denzel Yard, a 6-foot senior, made five three-pointers en route to finishing with 33 points, five steals and four rebounds. Twenty-two of the Siena signee's points came in the first half.

Jerrod Johnson, a junior swingman, scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half.

After taking a 9-7 lead in the first quarter, the Bobcats (15-3 overall, 14-0 division) led for the rest of the game. Mark Houston led the Engineers (14-8, 12-2) with 17 points.

In other league games:

Olney clinched the Division A title with a 79-64 win over host Lincoln. Jesse Morgan led the way for the Trojans with 28 points.

Sam Prescott accounted for 16 points and led Imhotep Charter past visiting Prep Charter, 55-50, clinching the Division C title.

With two seconds left, Najee Underwood launched a jump shot from the free- throw line and handed Overbrook a 62-61 win over host Northeast. Underwood scored 10 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and handed out nine assists.

Steve Holland dropped in nine of his 23 points in overtime to lift Hope Charter to a 72-67 win over host Sayre.

Donte Williams struck for 25 points and boosted Washington to a 56-50 win over visiting University City.

Keith Brown picked up a double-double and sparked Saul to a 56-49 win over visiting World Communications. Brown scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while grabbing five steals.

Catholic Red. Mike McCarron won his 100th game as North Catholic dispatched visiting St. Joseph's Prep, 38-31.

McCarron's record is 100-64 in seven seasons. The Falcons were led by Mike Terry, who scored 10 points.

Suburban One National. Andrew Stress converted a pair of free throws to secure Council Rock North's 50-49 win over host Abington.

Arron Goodman and Stress each scored 11 points for the Indians.

Suburban One Continental. Dan Lineberger dropped in 22 points and helped Hatboro-Horsham beat visiting Quakertown, 66-60.

Del-Val. Maurice Nelson drained the front end of a one-and-one with four seconds left to hand Chester a 53-52 win over host Glen Mills.

Rahlir Jefferson had 16 points for the Clippers, and Nelson added 11. The Battling Bulls rebounded the missed Nelson free throw but missed a shot at the buzzer.

Ches-Mont. Raheem Harvey scored 18 points for West Chester Henderson in a 61-55 ovedrtime win over visiting West Chester East.

Bicentennial. Dan Kelly collected 20 points as New Hope-Solebury shaded host MaST Charter, 64-61, in overtime.

Friends Schools. Craig Pleasant connected for 16 points and led Friends Select to a 46-41 win over visiting Shipley.

Tri-County. Chuck Paul collected 20 points and helped West-Mont Christian hold off host Kimberton Waldorf, 38-35.

Nonleague. Evan Wisneski nailed a three-pointer in overtime and Christian Academy took the lead for good en route to a 55-52 win over host Cumberland Christian.

Ryan Naylor scored 21 points for the Crusaders.

Swimming

Stefan Gallini gained a pair of victories and helped Central Co-op win the Public League title.

Central Co-op scored 325 points, outdistancing Central (277), Washington (234), Girls High (200), Northeast (136) and Lincoln (93).

Gallini won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 1.05 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.47.

Wrestling

Council Rock North ignored that Hazleton came into the PIAA Class AAA Team Tournament as the District 2 champion and posted a 40-24 first-round victory at Crestwood.

The Indians, who came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed from District 1, will meet District 7 runner-up Connellsville, a 75-4 winner over District 8 champ Brashear, in Hershey on Friday.

In another first-round match, District 1 runner-up Boyertown handled District 12 champion and host La Salle, 38-21.

The Bears advance to the second round Friday in Hershey against District 6 champion Central Mountain.

In a Class AA first-round match, District 1 champion Octorara lost to District 3 runner-up Bermudian Springs, 53-15, at Methacton.

Inter-Ac. Episcopal Academy won each of its bouts by pin and edged Haverford School, 42-36.

Luke Brooman got the Churchmen off to a good start by pinning at 103 pounds in 1:12. Episcopal collected seven pins against the Fords.
