Conestoga wins a playoff tune-up

The Conestoga boys' basketball team tuned up for its Central League playoff game tomorrow by beating host Garnet Valley, 50-40, in its final game of the regular season.

The Pioneers (21-1, 15-1) overcame a 23-21 halftime deficit with a 16-8 scoring stretch in the third quarter. Doug Jakiela, Matt O'Hara and Zack Shapiro each scored 10 points for Conestoga.

Conestoga will host Upper Darby in a semifinal playoff game tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Penncrest closed out the first half with a 13-2 outburst and handled host Marple Newtown, 49-38.

The Lions, who will meet Lower Merion in a semifinal tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., got 17 points from Rodney Duncan.

Corey Canestrare's layup with a minute left in overtime helped Bensalem edge host Council Rock North, 54-53.

Brian Parker picked up 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Chichester past visiting Interboro, 45-35.

Tom Brennan converted five three-pointers and scored 33 points for Sun Valley in a 63-60 win over host Unionville.

Daniel Ochefu paced a balanced Westtown scoring attack with 18 points, and the Quakers went on to beat host George School, 61-36.

Erin Mann capped a Villa Maria rally with a free throw with six seconds left to hand the Hurricanes a 38-37 win over host Nazareth Academy in an Athletic Association of Catholic Academies game.

Ellen Cannon converted a huge three-pointer to tie the game and Mann nailed her free throw to win the game.

Colleen Gavin celebrated Senior Night with 19 points and 15 rebounds to spark Quakertown to a 49-45 overtime win over visiting Pennridge.

Shayla Felder scored six points in the second quarter and eight more in the third quarter to account for all of her points in Cheltenham's 67-31 win over visiting Springfield (Montgomery County).

Lizzy Carney his seven free throws and scored 10 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to give Unionville a 36-32 win over host Sun Valley.

Wes O'Brien earned a pin in 35 seconds at 145 pounds and sparked Delco Christian to a 54-24 win over visiting Phil-Mont Christian in a Bicentennial League match.

Zachary Rego needed just 39 seconds to earn a pin at 145 pounds and helped Haverford School beat Academy of the New Church, 49-22.
