Jabril Trawick transferred from Freire Charter to Abington Friends on Tuesday. Neither player will play basketball at their new school this season.
"It was just a whole bunch of stuff at Prep Charter," said Duncan, who lives in the Frankford section of Philadelphia.
The 6-foot-9 junior center didn't go into detail about the things that bothered him at the school. He would say only that he was unhappy there and tired of the nearly two-hour daily commute to the school.
Huskies coach Dan Brinkley could not be reached for comment.
"I was up at 5:30 a.m. to go to school," said Duncan, who averaged 8.3 points this season. "I would get home every day around 9:30 p.m. or 10. I wouldn't go to bed until around [midnight]"
Trawick transferred to Abington Friends because, he said, he had wanted to go there all along. The 6-3 sophomore guard attended Abington Friends as a freshman. His family said he transferred to Freire Charter for financial reasons.
Trawick's uncle, Lean Shamsid-deen, a former Abington Friends assistant coach, began the season as Freire Charter's coach. Shamsid-deen was replaced as the Dragons coach after 12 games. The family says Trawick's transfer had nothing to do with the firing.
"I was unable" to finance the tuition, Shamsid-deen said of Trawick's not staying at Abington Friends. "So we took a step back. We are thankful to get him back there.
"I was [at Abington Friends] for 131/2 years. I feel very fortunate and lucky. Everybody doesn't have the opportunity to go to Abington Friends."
Trawick averaged around 13 points for the Dragons.
