Bartram's basketball team got some payback at just the right time yesterday. The Maroon Wave lost at home two weeks ago to Olney, 86-85, but turned the tables on the host Trojans in a District 12 Class AAAA semifinal game.

Tyrone Garland converted five three pointers and teammate Quasim Jones chipped in with four three's to lead No. 4 seed Bartram past top-seed Olney, 91-71.
Jones scored 13 of his game-high 34 points in the second quarter when the Maroon Wave was taking a 45-37 lead. Jones dropped in 20 of his 27 points in the second half.
In the other semifinal, Jamir Hanner struck for 17 points and 18 rebounds as No. 3 seed Southern handled visiting No. 8 seed Washington, 64-54.
District 12 Class AAA. Nasir Jones' basket with 3.5 seconds left gave top-seed Franklin Learning Center a 73-71 win over visiting No. 4 seed FitzSimons.
Tyrell Johnson made Jones' basket meaningful when he converted a putback to tie the game with 14 seconds left.
Denzel Yard paced the Bobcats with 34 points.
In the other semifinal, Tyree Smith picked up 11 points and helped No. 2 seed Gratz beat visiting No. 3 seed Engineering & Science, 49-37.
District 12 Class AA. Top-seed Imhotep Charter broke a 43-43 tie in the fourth quarter and went on to beat visiting No. 4 seed Communications Tech, 66-58.
Will Adams scored 8 of his 15 points in the final quarter and teammate Sam Prescott added 19 points for the Panthers.
In the other semifinal, Ameen Tanksley scored 13 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and lifted visiting No. 3 seed Prep Charter past No. 2 seed Strawberry Mansion, 55-53.
District 12 Class A. Maurice Watson dropped in 13 of his 27 points in the final quarter and led visiting No. 3 seed Boys Latin past No. 2 seed Paul Robeson, 89-73.
In the other semifinal, top-seed Math, Civics & Sciences raced to a 48-18 lead in the first half and cruised past visiting No. 4 seed New Media Charter, 85-39.
Jose Ortiz picked up 11 of his 29 points in the opening quarter for the Mighty Elephants.
Bicentennial. Marcel Carr poured in 32 points and helped Morrisville get past host MaST Charter, 74-55.
Lower Moreland used a 12-point performance from Shaun Levine to beat host Calvary Christian, 54-33.
Tri-County. Ron Gabbay and Derek Benedict each scored 6 points in the first quarter to spark Barrack Hebrew to a 53-46 win over host Wyncote Academy.
Benedict scored 16 points and Gabbay added 9 points for the Cougars.
Zakee Wood notched 11 of his 26 points in the second half and led Mercy Vocational past host West-Mont Christian, 71-59.
Penn-Jersey. Justin Robinson collected 22 points and led International Christian past Doane Academy (N.J.), 70-53, for the league title at Life Center (N.J.).
Girls' Basketball
Emily Leer opened the 2009 District 1 Class AAAA tournament in impressive style.
Leer dropped in 25 points and carried No. 9 seed Abington past visiting No. 24 seed Pennridge, 38-27, in a first-round game.
Catholic. Kaitlin Cole scored 21 points and Kerri Shields added 20 points as Archbishop Carroll tripped visiting Conwell-Egan, 65-39, in a quarterfinal playoff game.
Tri-County. Erica Hankerson accounted for 12 points and lifted Mercy Vocational past visiting Perkiomen School, 38-23.
Nonleague. Katie Rutan dropped in four three pointers and scored 22 points for Springside in a 39-27 win over host Abington Friends.
Vahava Elkaim led a balanced Stern Hebrew scoring attack with 10 points and the Blue Storm beat visiting Del-Val Friends, 49-34.
Woodlynde got 16 points from Sarah Engman and downed visiting Coventry Christian, 38-27.
The Warriors took the lead in the third quarter with a 14-4 scoring run.
Swimming
Central Co-op swimmers dominated the Public League individual swimming championships at La Salle University.
On the boys' side, Stefan Gallini won the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly and was a member of the winning 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays.
For the girls, Laura Hildebrandt and Megan McFadden each were involved in four wins.
Hildebrandt took the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. McFadden won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.
They joined with Manon Braciszewski and Leah Alminana to win the 200-yard medley and the 400 freestyle relays.
