Independent School Tourney opens tonight

No. 6-seeded Chestnut Hill Academy will host No. 11 Germantown Friends at 7 tonight in a boys' basketball game that will open the third annual Pennsylvania Independent School Tournament.
The remainder of the 14 boys' teams and the 12 girls' teams will swing into action either Monday or Tuesday. The finals for the boys and girls are set for Feb. 21 at Malvern Prep. The girls' game starts at 3 p.m., the boys' at 4:45.
The top seed in the boys' division is Friends' Central (22-1), which is ranked No. 2 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer. Academy of the New Church (12-9), the No. 7 seed, is the two-time defending boys' champion.
Germantown Academy (28-0) is the top seed in the girls' division. No. 3-seeded Notre Dame (21-7) is the two-time defending champion.
The Patriots, Irish, No. 2 Friends' Central (25-0) and No. 4 Shipley (14-3) drew first-round byes.
