Evans scores 41 as Henderson wins

West Chester Henderson's Shante Evans keeps setting career highs, and, perhaps not coincidentally, her basketball team keeps winning. Evans scored a career-high 41 points in the Warriors' 59-50 win over Spring-Ford in the first round of the District 1 Class AAAA girls' basketball playoffs yesterday.

Evans scored a career-high 41 points in the Warriors' 59-50 win over Spring-Ford in the first round of the District 1 Class AAAA girls' basketball playoffs yesterday.

It was the fourth career high for Evans this month as she had scored 33, 34 and 39 points in games the last two weeks.

In other first-round games:

Kelli Joran scored 14 points for host Downingtown East in a 55-14 win over Strath Haven.

Downingtown West used a 20-7 third quarter to build a big lead and coast to a 46-28 win over visiting Conestoga. Isabel Scott scored seven of her 16 points to ignite that third-quarter run.

Three players reached double figures, led by Shayla Felder with 17 points, for Cheltenham in a 59-46 win over visiting William Tennent.

Council Rock North coasted to an 84-34 win over visiting Marple Newtown as 13 players scored for the Indians. Sara Kiely led the way with 17 points.

At Great Valley, the Patriots used 23 points from Colleen O'Malley to beat Neshaminy, 46-29.

Suburban One Continental champ Central Bucks East rolled over fellow division member Souderton, 48-23, as Jamie Donovan scored 16 points.

Visiting Bensalem avenged a regular-season loss to North Penn by beating the host Maidens, 36-31, as Kate Clarkson scored 11 points.

Council Rock South registered the first playoff win in its short history by beating visiting Boyertown, 49-38, behind Alex Wheatley's 15 points.

Host Perkiomen Valley shot 12 for 15 from the line in the final quarter to hold off Central Bucks South, 46-44. The Vikings' Courtney Formica scored nine of her 15 points in the final quarter.

Bicentennial. At Holy Family College, Lower Moreland got 14 points from Lindsay Alexander in a 39-18 win over Delco Christian to take the playoff title.

Mid-Atlantic Prep. In a league semifinal playoff game, Peddie School outscored host Hill School, 52-20, over the middle two quarters and rolled to an 85-37 win.

Indoor Track and Field

Rayiana Johnson of Chester won both the 60- and 200-meter races to take the individual highlight at the Delaware Valley Track and Field Coaches Association girls' meet at Lehigh University.

Also at Lehigh, in the TFCAP boys' meet, Methacton's Welsey Lavong provided the individual highlight with a throw of 59 feet, 10 inches to win the shot put.

Boys' Basketball

At Cardinal O'Hara, D.J. Irving knocked down a big three-pointer late in the fourth quarter to give Archbishop Carroll a 51-48 Catholic League quarterfinal playoff win over West Catholic. Juan'ya Green led the Patriots with 17 points.

At Archbishop Ryan, Rakeem Christmas scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the second quarter during a 26-11 run for North Catholic in a 69-49 quarterfinal win over Monsignor Bonner.

Bicentennial. At Holy Family College, John Johnson's 15 points helped Girard College beat Holy Ghost Prep, 47-44, to win the league's playoff title.

Boys' Swimming

At Upper Merion, Upper Dublin coasted to the team title in the Suburban One American Conference championships and Dan Fitzgerald of the Cardinals took home a pair of individual titles. Fitzgerald won both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.

Boys' Bowling

Father Judge took home its first Catholic League title since 2004 with a 3,192-2,913 win over Roman Catholic in a match played at Boulevard Lanes.

"All the kids bowled above their average today," said Judge coach Jim Donnelly, who has four titles in 15 years.

Matt Wolff had the best series for the Crusaders with a 659. Judge finished 52-4 in the regular season.
