Egg Harbor Twp. retains swim title

Last year, they were chasing the title. This year, they were defending it. The result was the same for the Egg Harbor Township girls' swimming team, as the Eagles won the South Public A title last night with a 93-71 victory over Vineland (9-2) at Gloucester County Institute of Technology.

The result was the same for the Egg Harbor Township girls' swimming team, as the Eagles won the South Public A title last night with a 93-71 victory over Vineland (9-2) at Gloucester County Institute of Technology.

"Last year, we were hoping to win it," Egg Harbor senior MacKenzie Howarth said of the team's upset of top-seeded Mainland. "This year, we knew we could win it."

Howarth and fellow senior Holly Berenato each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay to lead top-seeded Egg Harbor (11-0).

Howarth won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay.

Berenato won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay.
