Church Farm didn't exactly mop the floor with Freeland MMI last night in a play-in game for the PIAA state Class A boys' basketball tournament, but gained a 61-55 win and its first trip to the competition.
The host Griffins did all the mopping on Tuesday night, after a leak in the roof resulted in the game's postponement as they led, 49-45, in the fourth quarter.
The Griffins (18-8) finished the final 4 minutes, 48 seconds last night and coasted past the District 2 runner-up.
Four players scored in double figures for Church Farm to help the school make the tournament in its first year as a member of the state organization.
Freeland, which won the Class A title in 1973, was seeking its first return to the state tournament since 1993.
Church Farm got 18 points from Cordell Long and 16 from soccer star Niamo Cofie. Phil Ogunleye added 13 points, and Chris Mayo chipped in 10.
Church Farm will travel to St. Joseph's Prep to take on Math, Civics and Sciences in a first-round game at 8 p.m. tomorrow.
The Griffins won District 1's third and final seed with a 49-41 victory over Christopher Dock in a district third-place game.
The consolation for the Preppers was finishing the season with a winning record (13-12).
