Haddonfield to induct Bakers, five athletes
The husband-and-wife coaching team of Nick and Maureen Baker and five athletes will be inducted into Haddonfield High School's Athletic Hall of Fame tomorrow night at Tavistock Country Club.
The husband-and-wife coaching team of Nick and Maureen Baker and five athletes will be inducted into Haddonfield High School's Athletic Hall of Fame tomorrow night at Tavistock Country Club.
Nick Baker has been the Haddonfield boys' cross-country coach since 1982 and the boys' indoor track coach since 1980. He also served as the boys' spring track coach from 1977 to 2004. Baker has compiled a 209-39 record in track and has a 237-15 record in cross-country while coaching a combined total of 18 state championship teams.
Maureen Baker was the girls' track coach in two stints, from 1977 to '84 and 1996 to 2004. She compiled a 139-8-1 record and coached four state title teams.
The 1987 boys' track team and 1983 girls' track team will be honored in conjunction with the Bakers' induction.
Here are the other members of the 14th class:
Jean LeCato Myers, Class of 1956. She was a three-sport athlete at Haddonfield and Ursinus College. She has been a rules official for the NCAA and the United States Golf Association, and was captain of the 2006 U.S. women's world amateur golf team.
Don Greinke, Class of 1967. He set school, county and Colonial Conference records in the 440-yard dash. He also was a basketball standout. He played basketball and ran track at the University of Tennessee.
Dan Cronk, Class of 1971. He was a three-year starter at quarterback as well as a baseball standout. He helped the baseball team win a state title as a senior and played football at Lafayette.
Candy Baker Gottlieb, Class of 1977. She was ranked in the top 10 in diving in the state as a sophomore, junior and senior. She coached the College of New Jersey swimming team for 14 years and was the NCAA Division III coach of the year in 1997.
Doug Stewart, Class of 1989. He was the leading scorer for the basketball team, which went 31-0 en route to a state title in his senior year. He also helped the baseball team win a state title that year. He played at Brown University and is an assistant coach at Oregon State.
