Pa. Girls: Pitching leads Bristol to title at Tennent tourney

Bristol pitchers gave up one hit as the Warriors won the William Tennent softball tournament yesterday. Ashley Cantiello fired a five-inning no-hitter in the semifinal game and the Warriors beat Bensalem, 13-0.

Cantiello struck out 11 and walked two. Nicole Adamson drove in a pair of runs.

In the championship game, Kiersten Cain gave up a single in the second inning as Bristol downed the host Panthers, 4-0.

Cain struck out 14 and walked five. She was backed on offense by Jennifer Jaeger, who went 2 for 3 with an RBI single.

Ches-Mont. Cardine Raymond was nearly unhittable and led Kennett past visiting Downingtown West, 1-0.

Raymond gave up a single with two outs in the sixth inning, struck out 15, and walked four to earn the win.

Casey Herring drove in the only run the Blue Demons would need when she singled home Teresa Riccio, who had tripled.

Suburban One Continental. Chelsea Edwards went 2 for 2 with a triple and paced Hatboro-Horsham to an 8-0 win over host Pennridge.

Danielle DiFilippo picked up the win on the mound for the Hatters.

Pioneer Athletic. Krista Schauder and Lauren Bistrek each went 3 for 5 and led Boyertown to a 10-0 win over host Pottstown.

Schauder hit a double, scored twice, and drove in three runs; Bistrek scored twice. Brianna Deiter and Kaylee Austerberry each contributed two hits and an RBI for the Bears.

Shelby Beaver earned the win on the mound after pitching three innings and striking out six.

Nonleague. Natalie Klotz tossed a complete-game two-hitter and Mary Trocky hit a three-run homer to lift Springside to a 3-0 win over host Abington Friends.

Klotz struck out 11 and walked two en route to the win. Trocky's home run came in the sixth inning.

At Disney World's Wide World of Sports Complex, Meg Rothwell belted a two-run double in the second inning and helped Mount St. Joseph beat McAuley of Portland, Maine, 6-4.

Rothwell finished with a pair of hits, as did teammate Christy Menkhouse.

Danielle Sienko ripped a pair of doubles and a single to boost Penn Charter past host Hill School, 16-9.

Sienko also walked, stole three bases, scored three times, and drove in two runs.

Kimmy Begley hit a triple and a home run to led Abington past host Cheltenham, 11-2.

Begley hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and drove in a pair of runs. Ali Muehlbronner added four singles, three runs scored, and two RBIs.

Tegan Wendell held the Panthers to five hits, struck out five, and walked one to earn the victory on the mound.

Ally Martin singled with two outs in the sixth inning for Interboro's only hit in a 3-0 loss to visiting Easton.

Bucs pitcher Missy Schwartz went the distance and gave up five hits, struck out seven, and walked four, but was tagged with the loss.

Track and Field

Penncrest won three events at the Great Valley Relays, and two of those victories were record-setting performances.

The Lions won the long- jump relay with a team of Kayla Graves and Lauren Tusar. Their combined jump of 35-03/4 was a meet record.

They then combined to win the triple-jump relay with a mark of 73-41/2, a track record.

Graves and Tusar weren't finished. They joined with Samantha Finsterbusch and Christa Horrocks to win the 4 100-meter relay with a time of 49.74 seconds.
