Owen J. Roberts' dynamic softball duo of pitcher Kelly Schymanski and catcher Jen Beaver picked yesterday to post a pair of impressive school records.
Schymanski, who pitched a three-hitter in a 13-0 Pioneer Athletic Conference win at Upper Perkiomen, broke the school record for wins with 34.
Beaver went 2 for 3 with a home run and established a school record for RBIs with 65. The previous records were 33 wins (Kelsey Shultz, 2007) and 64 RBIs (Kristen Uhas, 2006).
The Wildcats are 11-0.
Inter-Ac. Agnes Irwin rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to beat visiting Episcopal Academy, 4-2, and remain unbeaten. Kate Mentzinger got the win for the Owls (5-0 overall, 4-0 league).
Central. Courtney Spina outdueled Alicia DeSanto as host Garnet Valley remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Upper Darby. Spina pitched all seven innings, giving up just two hits, striking out 11, and walking just one. DeSanto gave up five hits, including one to Spina's sister, Nicki, who drove in Gina Ricci with the game's only run.
Michele Patten pitched a one-hitter for host Haverford High in its 10-0 win over Harriton.
Ches-Mont. Sarah Gosselin pitched a seven-inning two-hitter for Coatesville in a 5-0 win at West Chester Henderson. Gosselin struck out nine and walked none.
Caroline Raymond pitched a no-hitter and struck out 18 as Downingtown West won at Downingtown East, 5-0.
Catholic Academies. Samantha Gibson pitched a three-inning no-hitter for host St. Basil in its 15-0 win over Sacred Heart.
Nonleague. Cardinal O'Hara and host Springfield (Delaware) County are separated by 2.1 miles and, now, by just one extra-inning run in softball as O'Hara used a bunt and an error to win the nonleague game, 4-3, in eight innings.
Jen Cauley started off the inning with a single, and Allie Scanlon pushed a bunt past the pitcher that resulted in a two-base error by the first baseman, allowing Cauley to come around with the winning run.
The other key hitter on the afternoon for the Lions was Jessica Menhold, who went 3 for 5.
Host Perkiomen School rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a three-run lead and beat Renaissance Academy, 14-13.
Lindsey Manferdini, who was the winning pitcher for the Indians, was also the team's best hitter, going 4 for 4. Her sister, Taylor Manferdini, went 3 for 4 as did Lucy Cox.
Perkiomen School's offense pounded out 16 hits to get those 14 runs and needed all of them, as Renaissance Academy made things interesting in the top of the seventh by pushing across a pair of runs. Lindsey Manferdini pitched out of a jam to end the game.
Ashley Arroyo got the win on the mound and helped herself with an RBI-triple as host Olney topped rival International Christian, 23-6.
With the Friends Select field water-logged, the Falcons traveled to Girard College to play what was supposed to be a home game and came away with a 28-12 win. The Falcons (1-3) were designated as the home team. They got a seven-hitter from pitcher Cate MacQueen and a pair of extra-base hits off the bat of Camy Anderson. Friends Select has suffered seven rainouts.
