Eustace shells Gloucester Catholic to take tourney
Jimmy Yezzo went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs and took home the MVP award after leading host Bishop Eustace to the championship of the 28th annual Tom Heinkel Tournament with a 16-9 title-game win over rival Gloucester Catholic.

The Crusaders belted five home runs among 11 hits, including Yezzo's bases-empty and three-run blasts. A. J. Rowell added a grand slam, and Chris Bzozowski and Scott Carcaise also homered.
Eustace knocked off Audubon, 9-6, in the semifinals with homers from Rory McTear and Greg Brodzinski.
Joe Lang Tournament. Pitman won its own tournament, 10-0, over Cherry Hill East. MVP Marc Lucas pitched a five-inning, five-hit shutout, backed by Adam Satanoff's four RBIs and Alec Matchett's two hits and two RBIs.
Pitman reached the final by rallying to clip Gateway, 3-2. Steve Schuler doubled and scored on a seventh-inning grounder to end the semifinal contest.
Blue Devil Tournament. Nick Crescenzo went 4 for 7 with two RBIs and two stolen bases, earning the MVP award as host Hammonton won the event with an 11-1 final over Triton. Sophomore Nick Ettore added three hits and five RBIs.
Overbrook won the consolation game, 6-5, over St. Joseph as Jake McVicar came off the bench to drive in a fifth-inning run and added a long game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Olympic. Cherry Hill West's Brett Motta walked in the seventh inning of a 2-2 game, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on John Torres' single to right field, ending the Lions' 3-2 thriller over visiting Winslow Township.
Burlington County. Tom Baird, who also lined a pair of doubles, hit a two-out grand slam in the seventh to boost Holy Cross past host Maple Shade, 8-5.
Tri-County. Home runs off the bats of Andrew Lawrence (grand slam), Ryan Austin, and Seth Dorety accounted for half of Woodstown's runs in a 16-6 win over visiting Salem.
Nonleague. Cherokee gave up three first-inning homers, but stormed back to beat visiting Sterling, 15-5. Eric Barbieri ignited the Chiefs with two home runs, three runs scored and seven RBIs.

Taylor Chain continues to take the term

Chain, a senior at Gloucester, struck out a dozen batters in pitching her fourth perfect game of the season, and the Lions needed just five innings to maul Paul VI, 11-0, in the semifinals of the Overbrook Tournament.
Chain came back to pitch a two-hit shutout and drive in three runs in the championship game, in which Gloucester defeated Pennsauken, 5-0, to improve to 15-0 on the season.
Pennsauken advanced to the title game by edging Oakcrest, 1-0, in a semifinal. Winning pitcher Shelby Snyder (10 strikeouts) scored in the third inning on a single by her sister Haley.
Cumberland Tournament. Amy Homan's two-run single in the second inning provided enough cushion for the host Colts to edge Woodstown, 3-1, in the championship game.
Junior catcher AnnMarie McPherson was the star of the day for Cumberland, going 2 for 3 in the title game and collecting four hits, two runs, and six RBIs in an 18-1 semifinal rout of Bridgeton.
Hammonton Tournament. Amanda Martinez was the hot hitter for Williamstown, going 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs in a 13-1 opening-round romp over Sacred Heart, and Martinez came back in the Braves' 7-3 quarterfinal victory over New Egypt with a pair of doubles, three runs and two RBIs.
Williamstown is scheduled to face Gloucester Catholic, and Rancocas Valley will go against West Deptford in today's 1 p.m. semifinals, followed by the championship at 3 p.m.
Gloucester Catholic handled Delran, 8-0, in the opening round and ousted host Hammonton in the quarterfinals, 10-4, with Ali Robinson picking up her 100th career hit for the Rams.
Maritza Jimenez unloaded the lumber for Vineland, driving in four runs with a sacrifice fly and a pair of home runs, in a 6-1 victory over Bordentown in an opening-round game.
