S.J. Prep lineman to announce college choice

St. Joseph's Prep offensive lineman Seth Betancourt, a heavily recruited junior, will announce his college destination in a news conference at his school tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

St. Joseph's Prep offensive lineman Seth Betancourt, a heavily recruited junior, will announce his college destination in a news conference at his school tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Betancourt said yesterday that he had narrowed his list of choices to Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia, and Florida. "They're all pretty even," he said. "There's not much separating them."

Betancourt, an Inquirer first-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection last season, said he visited Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia, Duke, Penn State, and Connecticut.

Among Scout.com's top 300 high school football prospects in the country in the Class of 2010, Betancourt was ranked No. 95.

The 17-year-old had more than 100 "knock-down" blocks last season while helping the Hawks to an 8-4 record.

According to Prep coach Gil Brooks, Florida has made a late push to land Betancourt's services. He expects Gators offensive coordinator Steve Addazio to be at the school today.
