Foster, Schalick win county crown

Chris Foster birdied five holes in a 2-over-par round of 74 at Running Deer Golf Club as he led Schalick to the team title at the Salem County golf championships yesterday.

Foster, who birdied the third, fourth and ninth holes for a 2-under-par front nine of 34, took the individual trophy by a 7-stroke margin over his nearest competitors in a five-team field.

Schalick's four-player score of 341 edged runner-up Woodstown by 4 strokes.

Emily Fee of Schalick won two events, including a meet-record time of 12 minutes, 24.8 seconds in the 3,200-meter run, as the host Cougars collected six victories in claiming the Salem County Championships.

Pennsville's Kristin Weigel also set a meet record in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet, 6 inches.

The boys' team title went to Penns Grove, with Stephon Bell prevailing in the 400 intermediate and the 110 high hurdles.
