Turk McBride, a two-time Inquirer South Jersey defensive player of the year from Woodrow Wilson who is a defensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, is among six people who will be inducted next month into the South Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

The inductees will be honored during a 6 p.m. banquet on June 24 at Masso's Catering in Glassboro.

Also to be inducted are Delran head coach Pete Miles and former Camden star and ex-NFL player Derrick Ramsey.

Two honorees in the legends category are former Audubon running back John Owens and ex-Haddon Township tight end-defensive end John Walter. Bob McQuillan will be inducted in the distinguished-service category.

McBride is a 2003 graduate of Woodrow Wilson. The Chiefs took him in the second round in 2007 from Tennessee.

Miles has a 101-78 record in 18 seasons at Delran. He guided the Bears to the South Jersey Group 2 title in 1992.

After starring at Camden, Ramsey played quarterback at Kentucky before embarking on a nine-year NFL career as a tight end with the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots.

Owens was a star running back at Audubon in 1958 and 1959 and then enjoyed a stellar career at Penn, leading the Quakers in rushing his senior season.

Walter was part of three consecutive playoff teams at Haddon Township from 1979 to 1981. During that period, the Hawks also won two Colonial Conference titles. Walter was a member of Penn State's 1982 national championship team.

McQuillan was an assistant and head coach at Gloucester Catholic. As a head coach, he guided the Rams to a 9-0 record in 1971. He also was a longtime assistant on many powerhouse teams at Widener.

Tickets for the banquet are $25 and may be obtained by calling 856-582-0212.
