Christopher Dock girls fall to Lancaster Mennonite

Lancaster Mennonite came up with a goal in the second overtime period and slipped past Christopher Dock, 2-1, yesterday at Exeter Township in the quarterfinals of the PIAA state Class AA girls' soccer tournament.

Dock (12-7-2), the runner-up in District 1, took a 1-0 halftime lead before Mennonite tied the game in the second half.

District 1 champion new Hope-Solebury (16-4-1) also suffered a one-goal quarterfinal loss in the second game of the doubleheader at Exeter, bowing to District 3 runner-up Donegal (16-5-2), 1-0.

Class AAA. In quarterfinal action, Hempfield eliminated Red Land, 4-2, and Hershey squeezed past Manheim Township, 2-1, in a doubleheader at HersheyPark Stadium.

District 1 teams failed to advance to today's PIAA state semifinals as Pennsbury and Masterman each lost two of three matches in pool play at Penn State University.

Pennsbury, the District 1 champ, won its opening match in Class AAA, 26-24, 25-16, 21-25, against Hempfield, but suffered losses to Parkland and North Allegheny, each of which qualified for the semifinals.

In Class AA, Masterman managed a 25-20, 30-28, 25-19 sweep of Holy Redeemer, but dropped earlier matches against semifinal qualifiers Northeastern and Deer Lakes.
